PILOT BOARDING AREA

Northern Pilot Boarding Area

The Outer Northern Pilot Boarding Area for King Fahd Industrial Port at Yanbu is in position Latitude 24 deg. 02" N Longitude 37 deg.44" E. An inner Pilot boarding area. has been established in position Latitude 24 deg. 05' N Longitude 37 deg. 55' E. The length of pilotage from the North Pilot Boarding Area is approximately 30 miles, with a minimum depth of 32 meters.

Southern Pilot Boarding Area

The Outer Southern Pilot Boarding Area for King Fahd Industrial Port at Yanbu is in a position Latitude 23 deg. 26' 6" N, Longitude 38 deg. 27' 2" E. An inner Pilot Boarding area has been established in position Latitude 23 deg. 50' N, Longitude 38 deg.19' E. The length of pilotage from the South Pilot Boarding Area is approximately 38 miles, with a minimum depth of 35 meters.

Instructions to Masters

Vessels proceeding to Yanbu ports shall advise their ETA at the Outer Pilot Boarding Areas and shall await instructions from King Fahd Port Control before proceeding to the Inner Pilot Boarding Area. The Pilot will generally board and disembark at the Inner Boarding Area. Pilotage may be arranged from the Outer Boarding Areas, But only with prior notice given well in advance. The actual position of pilot boarding and disembarkation will remain at the discretion of the King Fahd Industrial Port at Yanbu.

PILOTAGE

Pilotage is compulsory in King Fahd Industrial Port at Yanbu. Pilots will disembark and board from twin screw steel pilot vessels. When approaching the pilot boat the Master of the ship must reduce speed to a minimum for steerage way, and maintain radio contact by VHF radio with the boat, whilst providing an adequate lee.

Every vessel picking up a pilot must have rigged and ready for use a safe, clean, properly secured pilot ladder. The pilot boarding arrangements must comply with the current IMO Codes of Practice concerning Pilot Boarding. A life buoy, with life line attached and a boat rope must be provided ready for immediate use, and, in addition.

between sunset and sunrise the pilot boarding area must be well illuminated. The rigging of pilot ladders and the embarkation and disembarkation of pilots must be supervised by a responsible deck officer.

Any vessel which over carries a pilot to another Saudi Arabian port must pay all repatriation expenses. Under no circumstances may a pilot be over carried to a port outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, due to visa restrictions. If weather, or other conditions, preclude the disembarkation of a pilot from a vessel bound to a port outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, then the vessel will be delayed at the vessels expense, until such time as disembarkation is possible. Any such vessel so delayed may arrange, at their own expense, for the pilot to be disembarked by helicopter.

The length of the North Pilotage from the Pilot Boarding Position is approximately 30 miles, with a minimum channel depth of 32 meters 200 meters NW of No. 3 Buoy, whilst the South Channel is approximately 38 miles, with a minimum depth of 35 meters in Latitude 23 deg.51' N, Longitude 38 deg. 19" 4'E close to SII Buoy. The general depth of the channel is in excess of 450 meters. Traffic separation Scheme (TSS) is in force in Both North and South channels. The Buoyage System in use in King Fahd Industrial Port at Yanbu is IALA System "A".
